Homo sapiens…a species on the move!
Demographic change, including population growth, has three main driving forces: fertility, mortality and migration, of which migration is by far the least predictable.
We have always been a species on the move. Since time immemorial Homo sapiens has always been looking beyond the horizon and asking, what if…?
Migration has led us to colonise every available habitat on earth and we constantly seek greener pastures, more fertile ground, a better living; it’s in our DNA; it’s who we are; it’s who we have always been.
Nowadays the reasons people migrant are many, but can perhaps be put into one of two broad classes right now: political and economic, with a third coming up fast; climate change.
But that is not to say these are distinct reasons, because they are not. Increasingly the line between them is becoming smudged, indistinct, the one bleeding into the other, and that lack of clarity is proving to be increasingly troublesome.
