Well, I think calling someone a fascist when they are plainly not lowers the bar and then every right-winger, incorrectly in my opinion, becomes labelled as a fascist and that doesn't help anyone. It just destroys any opportunity for reasonable discussion and risks any debate becoming little more than a verbal bun-fight! You effectively de-sensitise the label and push the accepted labels further to the right, oftentimes without adequate justification.
When populists make these comments they are employing the tactics and rhetoric if fascists (sometimes), but are plainly not fascists. We need to be careful to call out fascist trends and make people aware of what is going on, but we must be careful to avoid mislabelling. I think...
